What makes a good facilitator? – Part 1

I was just reading a birding mag and it struck me that the skills required to be a good birdwatcher – patience, knowing where to look, knowing what distinguising features to look for, having an idea of the terrain and likely birds you’ll encounter, having a good field guide to check your observations, and travelling to remote, sometimes difficult, but ultimately reqarding locations – is a lot like facilitating.

What?

Both literally and metaphorically.

How so?

Literally. Observation skills. Being in the moment, completely present, focused on what’s going on in front of you and all around you. Watching for the slightest movement that may be an indicator of something else. Alert. Drawing on previous experiences.

Hmmm…

And metaphorically?

Well, let’s see. Birdwatching can be done alone or with others. Strange new territory may throw up some surprises. You’ll never really know what to expect until you are in the midst of it. Some things you do may
