Visiting Madison, Wisconsin soon? Lucky you!

Sometimes I’m asked about facilitating and what has been the most useful thing I’ve learned.

The answer surprises some people.

The number one,

most useful,

never leave home without it,

thing I’ve learned (drum roll please)…

is

to

be

s   p   o   n   t   a   n   e   o   u   s.

And I learnt (am still learning) by doing improv. Improvisation. Acting scenes without a script. Improvising. Improv.

I can’t imagine how on earth I managed before I started doing improv. And while a few improv activities sometimes leak out into my workshops, by far and away the most useful reason for doing improv concerns my own professional development. And confidence.

And all this is by way of introduction to my friend Jodi Cohen. JodiHere’s a picture I took of Jodi when we were testing out the flash new bathrooms at the Chicago hotel venue for last year’s improv conference.

Jodi is an improv star. Sadly (for me, not her) she’s way over on the other side of the world in Madison, Wisconsin. If ever you find yourself in that part of the world, take the opportunity to take one of Jodi’s improv classes. Here’s a humourous Q & A by Jodi about taking improv classes.
